Unjunk Your Junk Food Book Review

Today, I have a really important book to share with all of you, so sit up and get ready for a special treat.

If you saw my recent Facebook post about the 15 Grossest Things You Are Eating, you know how important it is to select only the best ingredients to put into your body. What you eat matters, and you have to be diligent, because there is a lot of junk out there.

Unjunk Your Junk Food by Andrea Donsky and Randy Boyer, the founders of NaturallySavvy.com, is a book that will transform the way you think about food, choose food, and eat food. This book is jam-packed full of awesome information that reveals what is actually in the food you are consuming every day.

From the first page to the last page, I was in heaven, learning interesting facts about the ingredients that are in the foods we consume everyday.  I have to restrain myself from writing a much-too-long book review about this book, because I loved it so much and want to share every bit of it with you.

The authors divided each chapter by category, and then compared products in that category side by side, to show you the unhealthy option and then a healthier option. But first, they took the time to explain food labels, basic nutrition, and the worst ingredients.

For me, when I first received the book, I thought, "I am going to know all this stuff. I already eat organic and healthy." But, as I started reading, I continued to learn interesting tidbits about nutrition and ingredients that are helping me to take even better care of my family's health. For instance, did you know, "The FDA estimates that just reducing the amount of trans fats in foods would prevent 4,200 heart attack deaths annually?" Wowsers, right?

This book is not just a wealth of information, but it is a practical tool that you can take with you to the grocery store. Instead of Snickers, try Jokerz. Instead of Fruit by the Foot, try FruitaBu. They have a tear out chart, recipes, links to more great info, and a whole list of approved brands to help you make better decisions every day.

While I didn't have any of the no-no products in my house, I have been tempted from time to time to eat them, and this book reinforced for me how nasty they are, and how easy it is to make healthier switches. Thank you, Unjunk Your Junk Food!

  1. Sounds like a book we need to get. Our daughter has a 10 month old and this is just the type of information she looks for. Thanks for the review.
