"Squeaky Gourmet" was written by two very talented women. Maureen Jeanson is a holistic health and fitness educator, wife and mother of 5 children. Jamie Wilson is a talented and passionate cook, a full time Geologist, and a mother of a very energetic little girl. They both have a passion for feeding their families in the healthiest way they know how.
I can really relate to these women, since I am always either coming up with my own recipes or modifying other recipes to make them healthy enough to feed my family. "Squeaky Gourmet" uses simple, clean ingredients to make food your family will actually eat. In my family, we eat mostly vegan, so the protein section of this cookbook was not really helpful for me, but the rest of it is awesome! I love the recipes for grains, vegetables, legumes, fruits and desserts, avocado, dressings, dips and nuts. One of my favorite recipes is the Moe's Kid Tested Granola Bars. There are only 5 ingredients, and they are super easy to make. Instead of spending a bunch of money on store bought granola bars, full of sugar and artificial ingredients, make your own! Save money, calories, fat, and eat healthier!
I love that on each page, they have broken down the nutrition per serving to show you calories, fat, protein, and carbs. Then they put that information in a nice circle graph. This book is great if you are counting calories and like to keep track of what you put in your body. You can see below what the recipes in this cookbook look like.
I also appreciate that they have infused this cookbook with tips on cooking their recipes, lots of helpful information on nutrition and tips on cooking efficiently. My only real critique is that I am a huge advocate for eating organic, so I would love to see something about organics in this cookbook. I would recommend that if you use this cookbook, you use organic versions of the ingredients listed. Otherwise, I love it!
Being a personal trainer and nutrition consultant, I am always looking for great recipes and cookbooks to recommend to my clients, and I have never found a single one that I really thought I could recommend. I usually just share my own recipes that I have made up or modified. "Squeaky Gourmet" is one cookbook I would have no problem recommending and sharing recipes from.
You can find "Squeaky Gourmet" on Amazon or buy it right from their site. If you buy it directly from the site and enter the code "your world healthy" you will recieve $5 off!! Even for a bargain shopper like me, this is a great deal!
Happy Cooking!
