4 Healthy Halloween Treat Alternatives

Take your hand out of the candy jar!

It's okay to splurge a little, once in awhile, on treats we wouldn't normally include in our healthy diets. But, there is no reason to splurge on artificially colored, artificially flavored, GMO-laden candy and junk food that can barely be called food.

How about I give you a few healthier options to choose from for your Halloween parties and for handing out to trick-or-treaters?

First up, Somersault Snacks. Sound fun, don't they? They are! Made from nut-free sunflower seeds, these are jam-packed with protein and crunchy yumminess! They just introduced a new flavor that can easily replace sweet candy with just 7g of sugar - Cinnamon Crunch. This new flavor, plus their Pacific Sea Salt flavor were just certified as GMO free by the NonGMO Project! Congratulation to them!

These are delicious, healthy, and come in larger bags to share, plus two smaller bags you could give away as treats for your Halloween guests. Find them at stores near you, now including Target and Costco.

Next up, let me introduce you to the newest snack from Vitalicious - 100-calorie, all-natural Wild Blueberry VitaTops. These are bursting with ripe, wild blueberries, which contain double the antioxidants of regular blueberries. With 7g of fiber, 4 g of protein, and 15 vitamins and minerals, these are a much better choice than most Halloween treats. Plus, they are delicious!

Make sure you refrigerator or freeze them after you buy them, because they contain no preservatives and won't last forever on your counter (which is a good thing)! Find them online or at your local grocery store!

For all of you who prefer salty, get ready for great organic, non-GMO, gluten-free snacks! Good Boy Organics provides all of those things in their tasty snacks.
Let me explain why these are better than regular potato chips. They are organic. They are baked, not fried. They contain 65% less fat. They are verified non-GMO. Not only are they better for you, but they really hit the spot with taste. They are crunchy, flavorful, and come in a great variety of flavors for every taste. Find them at a Whole Foods near you!

Last, but most certainly not least, let's talk about an awesome treat that hits the salty and sweet spot! GH Cretors Chicago Mix combines cheese popcorn and caramel corn in the same bag, and boy oh boy, is it ever good! Here's why: the caramel corn is made the old fashioned way: by hand, in copper kettles. Cane sugar, brown rice syrup (a non-GMO alternative to corn syrup with a lower glycemic impact) and real butter is heated over a flame and then stirred slowly by hand to develop its rich complex flavor and crunch. For the cheese corn, real cheddar cheese is melted in special kettles and then gently mixed with locally-grown, air-popped corn. The result is a perfect combination of tastes, two-cheese to one-caramel in every bag. And, this treat is all natural and completely free of GMO’s, artificial colors, flavors, and preservatives!

GH Cretors is one of my favorite treats, and I was delighted to learn that besides their full size bags (which I love to have on hand), they also offer single serving bags that you can hand out to trick-or-treaters. You can find GH Cretors at select natural food and mainstream grocery stores across the country, and the single serve bags for trick-or-treaters can be purchased on their website!

Enjoy real food treats!
