Whole Foods Helping thinkThin to Become GMO Free!

I am sure many of you heard the buzz about With Whole Foods recently announcing that they will provide GMO transparency in all stores by 2018. Although, I personally wish they would get this done sooner, I am at least happy that it is happening. I wanted to share with you a little behind-the-scenes story of how Whole Foods is helping mainstream food brands achieve GMO free status.

thinkThin—the leading nutrition bar in the natural channel—and a Whole Foods customer for over a decade, felt that at one point, becoming non-GMO was just out of their reach.  The ingredients were challenging, the process was too meticulous, they didn’t know where to start.  So Whole Foods stepped in.

Over the past several years Whole Foods, through its many contacts in the industry, helped thinkThin to define the terminology they needed to use with their suppliers in sourcing the right non GMO ingredients.  Once they spoke the right language, they were able to get the products sourced and ultimately verified.  This week, they are able to officially announce that their Crunch line is made with non GMO ingredients.  But there’s still a long journey ahead, especially when it comes to their popular protein bars.

Together, Whole Foods and thinkThin will work closely to find and develop readily available sources of non-GMO proteins, connect them with their current suppliers and get them on the path.  Thanks to Whole Foods, a new economy will be created around non-GMO that even mainstream brands can sustain on.

I personally hadn't ever tried thinkThin products before I heard this story. I have since tried their Crunch bars, which are completely GMO-free, and I really enjoy them. With 8-9 grams of protein, 6-7 grams of sugar, and 4 grams of fiber in each bar, they make a really great snack choice. They I love the taste of them as well. They are sweet and a little salty at the same time - perfectly hitting the spot when I have a little craving. Now, if we could take these the next step to 100% organic, I would be a very happy customer.
