The Baby Signing Book Review

Have any of you tried baby signing with your children? I dabbled in it a bit with my two other children, and now I am ready to try it again with my third. However, whereas last time I just found a few signs online, now I am really prepared with a brand new book that is so helpful!

The Baby Signing Book, 2nd Ed: Includes 450 ASL Signs for Babies by Sara Bingham, is the king of baby signing books, in my opinion. This book has practically any sign that you can think of that you would want to teach your baby. And all the signs are right here in this book - no searching the internet trying to dig through multiple books to find the sign you want.

I love how organized it is! Part 1 of the book provides an introduction to signing with babies and young children. Part 2 is an illustrated dictionary of 450 ASL signs. Part 3 provides songs and rhymes you can sign with your child. Plus, it has some great tips and advice for getting started in teaching your little one

Each sign in the book is shown with an illustration and written instructions in hand shape, body space, movement, and a memory aid. Plus, next to each picture, you can write down in the book when you introduced it to your child and when they produced it back to you. Such a fun way to keep track of what your child has learned and how they are progressing!

When you see your child learn and produce their first sign, you are going to be jumping for joy! It is so much fun to be able to communicate with your little one in a new and exciting way! Plus, it helps so much in relieving some of their frustration with not being able to tell you how they are feeling.

Get started signing with your children with this fantastic book! Buy it on Amazon and have fun!

  1. The day care where my granddaughter stays starts teaching the infants signing as soon as they can. She has learned quite a few and uses them all the time. She is combining them with speaking now. It helps children communicate before they are able to speak which is good for both the child and adults. I hope they continue to expand her vocabulary. Unfortunately, I don't see her often enough to keep up with what she is learning.

    1. That is really neat that they take the time to do that at the daycare.
