I don't know about you, but I am a little nervous Nelly when it comes to my teeth and gums. I am afraid of having tooth troubles, maybe because I have had a bad history with my teeth. I had to wear braces and headgear for years in my teen years, had a horrible wisdom teeth extraction experience, and have had issues with the dentist ever since.
I honestly feel like if my teeth are going to go to pot sometime, I would just rather have them all yanked out then go through more surgeries and dentistry work. Now, maybe I haven't thought that through completely, but that is my gut reaction.
The thing is - lately I haven't had anything to worry about in the teeth department. I haven't had cavities or any other troubles in years and years. I think a healthy diet, exercise, good sleep, and great habits of flossing and brushing can go a long way in preventing teeth issues.
Do you floss daily? Do you brush daily or more? Try to keep sugar consumption really low? Those are great places to start. You also want to make sure you pay attention to what kind of toothbrush you use. When I was younger and more naive, I accidentally bought a hard bristle brush, and it really hurt my gums. Finding a proper soft bristle brush can be a great receding gums treatment. Also, it is so important to floss daily. I like to use those little flossers on the stick. It makes it so much easier and cleaner.
Proper dental hygiene and great healthy eating habits are key in preventing teeth issues, and I am all about prevention!

I am among the lucky ones and have been blessed with good teeth. I am in my mid-60's and other than a few cavities have had no real problems. That said, I have been having problems with waking up with my mouth really dry. Little did I realize that I had what they call Dry Mouth and it has caused my gums to recede. Not something I would have expected.
ReplyDeleteBest thing is to go to your dentist if there is anything unusual. It can cause problems that could lead to losing your teeth.
