So often I hear older people say, "I am just getting old" as they talk about their health in a hopeless way. I always feel sad about that, because even though they are aging, they are still capable of being wonderfully healthy and fit.
Here are some tips for feeling young while aging healthfully: (these tips are also great for the rest of us, too!)
1. Stay active. Whatever activity is it that you enjoy, keep doing it! Every day, keep your body moving as much as you can. Clean your own house as much as you can. Keep up with your own yard as much as you can. Cook for yourself, which leads me to the next point.
2. Load up on high-fiber fruits, vegetables, and whole grains.
Your whole digestive system is slower, so fiber is very important.
Consume fiber-rich foods such as whole grains, fruit, and vegetables.
They will help you feel more energetic and give you fuel to keep going.
3. Do something a little different each day. You don’t have to work
elaborate crosswords or puzzles to keep your memory sharp. Try to work
in something new each day, whether it is taking a different route to
the grocery store or brushing your teeth with a different hand. Maybe even try eating with the opposite hand. If you can master that, you are doing better than me.
4. Make sure you stay current with your health screenings and doctor visits. If you need help with insurance, make sure you check out the Medicare advantage.
5. Keep doing the things you love! Stay excited and active about the things you are passionate about in life! Volunteer, spend time with family, explore new places!
Enjoy each moment of your life! It is a privilege to wake up each day and serve others!
