Beyond Sugar Shock by Connie Bennett is a follow up book to the best seller Sugar Shock. In this book, she explains what sugar is, how it harms you, and why it is just so addictive. I kind of knew all of the health claims and risks already. But, if you are like me, then you need to know how to get rid of that addiction once and for all. This is where this book succeeds. The book is really informative, but also is a fun workbook that takes you step by step through six weeks that won't be torture.
The first thing you need to do is have a plan. The first 3 weeks is building a foundation. The book guides you right along on planning for exercise, making goals, creating a positive mind-set, and seeking out support. The second 3 weeks are about keeping your work so far in action. Keep affirming that you can do it, accept your charge over your health. In other words, the book does a great (and possibly life saving) job of getting you on, and keeping you on, track.
Filled with inspiring stories, practical solutions, and plenty of reminders on how and why to work through sugar addiction, I found the book really easy to read, and even easier to use. It's been about 5 days since I picked up this book, and I have to say, it is working. I keep going back to making a plan, and then working that plan.

ReplyDeleteCara and Cathy, thanks so very much for this nice review of my book, Beyond Sugar Shock.
ReplyDeleteI'm so glad to hear that you've been doing what I call "Sugary Soul Searching" -- thinking about how thoughts of sugar come to you often.
Very cool that you even gave it a number! What power you can get from that awareness.
Please keep in touch and connect on Facebook as you Take Back Your Sugar Power! You can do it!
Thanks again!

Me too, unfortunately, I usually give in to the craving! I read a book about Serotonin recently that said a small serving of carbs or sugar without protein actually increases serotonin, so I've been trying to eat that when I crave.
ReplyDeleteIf I crave sugar, I usually grab a piece of candy. Unfortunately, it usually doesn't stop at one piece.
ReplyDeleteI reach for yogurt, and drink water to fill my stomach up.
ReplyDeleteUnfortunately, I usually cave in and eat whatever I am craving. I need to nknow how to beat these cravings.
