5 Easy Ways To Stay Healthy During the Holidays

Thanks to your responses to my question about holiday eating, I know many of you have a hard time keeping up with your normal routine of healthy eating and exercising during the holidays.  I want to share with you my top 5 ways to stay healthy and enjoy the holidays!

1-      Remember, your stomach shouldn't be a waste basket. This doesn't mean you can't eat your absolute favorite treats. But, remember to be picky about what you put in your mouth and how much of it you consume.

2-      Don’t forget about your goals. Studies on personal achievement have shown that people reach 80% of the goals they put on paper. Set reasonable, detailed goals and remember, just because you mess up once doesn’t mean you should quit. I always tell my clients to post them on their refrigerator to keep them in mind every day.

3-      Plan all your workouts in advance. You know your schedule is going to get hectic over the holidays, so stay on track by planning your schedule in advance. Put it on a wall calendar or make “appointments” in a daily planner for ALL your workouts. I am offering a 4-week Boot Camp right now to help my clients stay on track with their goals. If you pay for classes in advance, chances are you won't miss them!

4-      Eat in moderation. Just because it is the holidays, doesn't mean your body wants you to add 500 more calories to it each day. Sometimes all we need of our mom's apple pie or chocolate fudge is a bite or two. Remember, a moment on the lips - forever on the hips.

5-      Remind yourself why your health is important to you. Keep your standards high, but don’t expect other people’s standards to be as high as yours. Don’t let their negative influence drag you down. When they offer you seconds on dessert, politely say, “No thank you.”

Easier said than done, right? Just take one step at a time. Focus on one or two of these ideas at a time. Once you conquer one, you will feel even more confident and want to try a few more.

To Your Health!

  1. I really like tip #1. Sometimes we think it's all or nothing ... if we enjoy a treat, we figure that we should just enjoy EVERYTHING. It's such a great reminder to treat ourselves within reason and make each treat count ... quality over quantity. Thank you for the reminder! :-)

  2. I really needed this right now! Even though Thanksgiving is come & gone, I am SO GONNA use your quote "your stomach is not a waster basket"! Ha! Love it!
