Friday Fun!

Living healthy natural lives is not always the easiest thing, which is why I started my blog - to inspire and help others live their best life healthfully and naturally. Friday Fun is my way of sharing a bit of my life with you, my readers and friends, and I hope you will be willing to share your thoughts and ideas with me too.

So, here we go!

In my life this week...

A lot of my dear family members are struggling with health issues, and it has really made me appreciate good health once again. I, myself, also spent the majority of the week fighting one of the worst migraine headaches of my life. If you haven't had one, let me just say I wanted to crawl up in a ball and die. Instead, I still had to be a mom of 3, personal trainer, fitness instructor, blogger, etc. Needless to say, I was at the end of my rope. I visited my chiropractor, practically in tears, and begged her to help me figure out how to never have another migraine, ever again. We came to the conclusion that the migraine is almost certainly because my body is undergoing too much stress. So, what now?

Well, I immediately jumped to, "What should I cut down on?" But, my wise chiropractor steered me instead to think about adding some things in. She basically was saying, you are great at all the things you do, and you love doing them, so why cut them out? Instead add in relaxing, stress-relieving activities like massage, spending time with people who help me de-stress, and taking relaxing baths. So, that is what I am trying. I am also going to lower the intensity on my workouts a bit to see if that helps.

I am inspired by...
my sister, Jenni. She has had a really rough past month or so, and she is so brave and calm about it all. I just wish I could live closer to her and help her have some stress-free time!

My favorite thing this week was...
when my migraine stopped. Relief - there is nothing better.

What's working/not working for me...
Working - I lead an awesome 10 lbs Down program at the gym I work at, and my clients are doing so well! I am so proud of their hard work!

Not working - Stress. I know I am bringing it on myself in so many ways, and I am trying to cut down on it, but it is hard. I know some of it (maybe even most of it) comes from inside my own head, with my perfectionism and how hard I am on myself. I am a work in progress.

What are your favorite stress-relieving techniques? What really works for you?

Hands Free Mama by Rachel Macy Stafford is a great book that I use daily to help keep me focused on what is really important in life, Parenting the Wholehearted Child by Jeannie Cunnion, Encouragement for Today Devotional by Proverbs 31 Team, and for fun I am reading Lynn Austin's A Woman's Place.

I'm cooking...
Chicken and veggies in the slow cooker, turmeric veggie soup, homemade cauliflower crust pizza

I'm grateful for...
a forecast that doesn't include any more snow (we just got 5 inches last night), the weekend, loving family and friends, good books to escape to, a job I love, rocking my daughters to sleep, my son opening the door for me when I get home.

  1. Migraine headaches are horrible. I do feel for you after having some myself. I do think tension causes mine and also my herniated disks in my neck- I am sure do not help. Glad you are feeling better.
