Women's feminine hygiene products? Can they really be harmful?
It is time to ask yourself that very question!
Did you know that feminine hygiene companies don’t have to fully disclose the ingredients of their tampons and pads on their packaging? That’s because they are considered to be “medical devices."
Tampons and pads with odor neutralizers and other artificial fragrances are nothing short of a chemical soup laced with artificial colors, polyester, adhesives, polyethylene (PET), polypropylene, and propylene glycol (PEG), contaminants linked to hormone disruption, cancer, birth defects, dryness, and infertility.
However, we don’t know for sure if they are present, because companies are not required to disclose the ingredients in their products.
I really don't appreciate it when companies will not disclose to me exactly what is in the products I am spending my hard-earned money on. And unless I know it is safe, I am making the personal decision to stop using all conventional feminine hygiene products. Companies like Natracare offer much better alternatives, including organic cotton covered panty liners, which are also plastic free, perfume free, and chlorine free. I choose Natracare because I don't want anything potentially dangerous anywhere near sensitive areas. I know exactly what I am getting with Natracare because they list their ingredients right on the box! Revolutionary, right?

That is really upsetting to think about all the products that we may be using with harmful chemicals in them. I know I am very sensitive to chemicals and would love to stay away from them completely.

DeleteI just saw this story on Facebook and I was shocked, mostly because the brand they lit on fire to show its chemical volatility was the kind I use! After I wean my little girl I will be investigating other options.
