Being Thrifty

I know everyone is going to love this topic, because we are all looking for a few ways to save a little cash and earn a little cash. I am talking about thrift stores. I love them, not only because we are saving and earning some dough, we are also keeping tons of clothes, shoes, etc. out of our landfills and not buying more and more new clothes, which saves a ton of energy. That is a win/win situation for everyone!

So, why aren't more people using thrift stores? Well, unfortunately for some people, there is a certain stigma about it. But, that is not really an excuse. When there is so much good to gain and give, you just have to shrug off those feelings.

Perhaps, some people don't know where their nearest thrift store is. Well, I can help with that. Here is a great site to check out:
thethriftshopper.com

I love this site, because all you have to do is type in your zip code or city and state and whalla!! You are on your way to greener, money-saving shopping!

Now, even if you choose to forego the thrift bargains, you can still donate your items, and in some cases, make some cash on your old or unwanted stuff. Like they say, your garbage may be someone else's treasure! There is no need to fill up our landfills with items that can be reused and enjoyed.

If that isn't enough reason for you. Think about this: you will supporting a local business owner who takes pride in their work and care, instead of some huge chain store where so much is overpriced anyway.

Thrift shopping is really a great eco-friendly choice when your closet is running on empty. And who doesn't love bragging rights for the best bargain in town?

  1. Thanks for sharing the link to the thrift store locator. I love finding bargains at thrift stores, but must admit that sifting through all the merchandise for a great item can be overwhelming so I don't do it as often as I should.

    1. I understand the time-consuming nature of shopping thrifty. Sometimes it is just so worth it! I found a great ottoman the other day for only $15!!!

  2. My daughter and I go to a few thrift stores a few times a year. She loves to find vintage looking clothing and she often looks for old record albums. It is fun when we have the time to do this.

  3. I checked out this site - it is a good start. We have Savers around here now, which donates to Big Brother Big Sister program. I like shopping there, and have no hesitation when I receive a compliment to let people know where I shop! It is a great way to be "green" !
