I am always jazzed up to review a new healthy cookbook - especially one where the author knows the difference between alkaline and acidic foods. This cookbook, Eating the Alkaline Way by Natasha Corrett and Vicki Edgson, actually gave me a bit of a lesson, and I found it hard to put down as I gleaned much knowledge from especially the first few pages of the book.

Eating the Alkaline Way is a diet/cookbook that involves eating predominantly alkaline foods in an effort to keep the body’s pH between 7.35 and 7.45, and claims to be able to heal a variety of ailments, promises better health, as well as a trimmer waistline. If followed correctly, this diet/lifestyle will help improve energy levels and memory, headaches, bloating, heart disease, muscle pain and insomnia. The diet has already drawn some celebrity attention - Victoria Beckham, Gywneth Paltrow, Kirsten Dunst and Jennifer Aniston are already fans.

I have gone through many different diet phases - vegetarian, almost vegan, Whole30, paleo, and it was interesting to get back to the basics of alkaline/acidity in the foods I choose. I do agree about the tremendous value of eating more alkaline foods to keep your body from becoming too acidic, which I believe leads to illness. That is why I personally add strongly alkaline foods to my everyday diet - apple cider vinegar, broccoli, alfalfa to name a few.

This book took time to give many foods we're eating an alkalinity rating, to help you decide how to incorporate enough of them into your everyday diet. They also talked about cleansing, upgrading your current food choices, a healthy menu planner and much more. And, of course, there are the recipes!

I loved how most of the recipes came with beautifully, mouth-watering pictures! I am visual person, and these pictures made me want to try out the recipes even more.  From recipes as simple as Avocado on Toast to the more complex Spicy Bean Burgers with Cajun Wedges and Superslaw, there are many great recipes your whole family will love, plus there are tasty desserts too!

Whether you are interested in learning more about alkaline/acidity, prevention of disease, or just want some great healthy recipes, you'll love this cookbook!

    1. Do a little research on alkaline foods versus acidic foods. You might be surprised by what you find. There is definitely value in it, but it can be a challenge. I completely understand a nice glass of wine at the end of the day. :-)
