- Food is not a religion and nutrition is not about deprivation, reward or punishment. All food is, by nature, "neutral." Food is simply a means to achieving and maintaining health so you can live to the fullest.

I think it means that we really just need food to live, and not to think of it as a pleasure or reward???

Good point, Maryann!
DeleteI have to agree with it. The food itself is neutral. It is our use of it and fixation on it that is the problem.
ReplyDeleteYes! Agreed!

ReplyDeleteI totally agree food should be "neutral." that doesn't mean it can't give pleasure, but as soon as ppl start attaching rewards, or think of a calorie as an evil monster, etc., it can get hard to have a healthy perspective.
ReplyDeleteYes, and it is hard to counteract the messages that media sends us about food, body image, etc.
DeleteI like this! Food is neutral...by picking food b over food a you're not rewarding yourself or being naughty, you're just giving your body fuel. Some choices are better than others, but that's all. Getting away from the morality of eating (in the 'good' vs. 'bad' food sense, I'm not getting into the ethics of local sourced food, meat etc.) is incredibly freeing.
ReplyDeleteWell said, Mer! When you start to just focus on fueling your body with the best you can, it is freeing!
