IsoBreathing Review

What is IsoBreathing, you ask? I know it sounds funny, but it is actually quite useful in helping you staying fit and healthy.

IsoBreathing is a program developed by Ellen Miller that uses isometric exercises and slow, rythmic breathing.

An isometric is a muscle contraction in which the tension increases, but the muscle length remains the same. Energy is expanded and calories burned by maintaining the contraction.

The breathing portion of IsoBreathing is a specialized breathing that delivers oxygen to every part of the body being exercised. The breathing is slow and rhythmic.

I received the IsoBreathing Volume 1 Basic DVD. In Volume 1, the breathing technique is incorporated along with proper body positioning for both the exercises and stretches. You can customize your workout to your ability level. Also included with the DVD is an exercise band that you will use during the program.

While I think Ellen is a great instructor, who calmly leads you through the workout, this program really isn't my cup of tea. I prefer high energy workouts, and this is quite the opposite. It moves very slowly and has very calming music in the background. While that may be perfect for some people, it just isn't my style.

I do think the exercises are valuable, and anyone can do this program. It may be especially helpful if you need a low impact workout. If you prefer slow, calming exercises that still strengthen your muscles, then this program may be for you! Check out the IsoBreathing website, watch a video clip or two to get more an idea about the program and give it a try if it appeals to you!
