Set Goals and Conquer Them!

Whether it is weight loss, living a healthier life, being a better parent, getting in shape, or whatever area of your life you are working on improving, it is VITAL to have goals! One of the things I always do for my personal training clients is help them make a goal list. After making their goal list, then we also make a motivation list to help keep them on track.

A key factor in accomplishing your goals is what is going on in your head. You can sabotage or help accomplish your own goals with your thoughts. Wouldn't you rather use those thoughts for your advantage?

The first way to do this is to THINK POSITIVE!! If you are always thinking about how you can't, can't, can't, you will never see your own potential. Retrain your brain. Every time you catch yourself thinking negatively, turn that thought around into a positive thought. It is amazing what you can do when you really believe in yourself! I have found that so many people are just too harsh on themselves and don't really give themselves the full potential to succeed at their goals, and this starts with your thoughts. So, right at the top of your goal list in big letters, write BE POSITIVE!

Next, let's talk about visualization. It's easier to be successful at achieving your goals if you have a clear picture in your head of you achieving exactly what you want. Your unconscious is powerful and when you are visualizing victory, your unconscious is becoming more and more convinced. So, draw a picture on the back of your goals sheet of what achieving your goal looks like.

Lastly, don't dwell on the disappointments. It just won't get you anywhere to focus on what you aren't doing or being.  When I get down on myself, I notice that it zaps my energy. Not to mention how it brings others down, and you could use their positive support! So, make sure you always have a running list in your head of what you are thankful for or proud of.

Don't be your own worst enemy and defeat yourself before you begin. You hold a lot of power in your thoughts, and YOU CAN DO IT! There is a reason they always say "you can do it if you put your mind to it".

Now, get going!

  1. This is so awesome - thank you for writing this!! I never thought to draw a picture of what my goals actually look like (for example..a trimmer me), but I think this would really motivate me in such a positive way - and MORE than an "ugly" picture would, which just makes me feel like crap!

Thanks, as always, for sharing your positivity, Cara!

  2. Thank you for sharing this! It is hard at times to think positive and I need a reminder sometimes :).

  3. I was just thinking about the importance of goals. They translate to motivation! So important.

  4. The visualization piece works the best for me, in addition to telling people your goal. Telling your family, friends, coworkers, whoever that you're working toward something is the best motivation, especially when they ask you how it's going.
