How many of your children/grandchildren do not eat many fruits or vegetables? I hear from a LOT of parents how hard it is to get their children to eat healthy, and I just keep saying, "Don't give up trying!" A wide variety of fruits and especially vegetables in our diets has so many health benefits, that we have to try whatever it takes to help our children (and maybe ourselves) see the value and deliciousness hidden in these foods.
One way I have kept my children asking for more veggies is by offering them books to read and explore about produce from an early age on. Healthy Foods from A to Z is one of the best that I have seen, and I am hoping it will be in your child's library soon!
This book not only takes you on a food journey through the alphabet in English, but also in Spanish. As you may know, young children have an easier time picking up new languages, so this is the perfect time to teach them Spanish.
My children LOVE this book. They cannot get enough of it. I think part of the reason is that there is so much packed into this beautifully illustrated book. From featuring multiple fruits and veggies in English and Spanish for each letter to lots of healthy food projects you can try and interesting facts about each of the veggies/fruit in the book, there is so much to learn and so much to explore!
Here is an example of the page for letter J and K. My kids got such a kick out of the funny faces on each page of the book!
No matter whether your kids are already champion veggie/fruit eaters or don't want to get near them with a 10 foot pole, this is a great book that you and your children will enjoy and learn a lot from!

I love alphabet books. This one is perfect. My daughter is teaching her daughter (almost 2) spanish and this is a good way to do it. I have been getting her bilingual board books for now and some others for use with her mom and for when she is older.
ReplyDeleteI wish I was still a children's librarian. This would definitely be on my order sheet.
It is a fantastic way to learn Spanish!
DeleteI am always looking for new ways to encourage my children (especially my oldest daughter) to eat healthier. I cook most everything from scratch, but when it comes time to eat the vegetables, a fight most assuredly will ensue. This might be a way to get them to enjoy the food while eating it.
ReplyDeleteYes! I hope it helps!
DeleteIt's great that the book features multiple fruits and veggies in English and Spanish! That's a good idea to start the kids in Spanish. Thanks for the review!
