The Paleo Cardiologist Review and Giveaway

I received this book to review. No other compensation was given. All opinions are my own.

Although trillions of dollars are spent treating U.S. patients, the U.S. is one of worst in life expectancy in developed countries. What are we doing wrong?

It all starts with what we are putting in, on, and around our bodies. Our world is full of toxins, and we are overwhelming our bodies with them!

I just finished a fabulous book by Dr. Jack Wolfson, The Paleo Cardiologist. Now, if you remember, I have read other books talking about the paleo diet and clean eating, such as Optimum Health the Paleo Way, Paleo Fitness and It All Starts With Food where I even took you along with me on my Whole30 Journey.

So, what makes this one different? Well, first of all, it is a great reminder of how and why I choose to eat the way I do. While I am no paleo perfectionist, I do try to eat a mostly paleo diet. Secondly, this book is about so much more. Dr. Wolfson talks about managing heart disease and diabetes better without prescription drugs, the top 20 supplements NECESSARY specifically for hearth health and which supplements are crucial for the body, how heavy metals and toxins can lead to heart disease, dementia, diabetes, stroke, cancer and autoimmune disease, depression, how Big Pharma has failed us, heavy metal dangers, sleep, exercise and so much more!!

If you are unfamiliar with paleo, it is a way of eating that recommends pastured, organic meat, lots of veggies, fish, eggs, avocado, coconut, nuts and seeds, herbs and spices, good fats and some fruit. Why would anyone want to eliminate grains, legumes, sugar, artificial anything, and dairy? Well, how about because you can completely change your health around!

I love what Dr. Wolfson says about your health, “The path to health is not easy and most of the world is against you. It is a major effort to stay healthy. You must dedicate time for yourself. You must make time to shop, prepare, and eat quality food. You must schedule exercise into your day. You must sleep well. If you are not healthy, your career will mean nothing. If you are not healthy, your relationships will suffer. The only person who can keep you healthy is YOU.”

In The Paleo Cardiologist, Dr. Wolfson contends that poor nutrition and sugar addiction are the true culprits in heart disease with too many people believing that doctor prescribed statins, aspirin and procedures will cure their heart problems – when in fact, they can be deadly. Dr. Wolfson’s new book contains critical information and flies in the face of conventional cardiology recommendations. According to Wolfson, who has a thriving practice Phoenix, AZ, the keys to good health is Paleo nutrition and a chemical-free lifestyle. This involves cutting out gluten, toxins, sugar, and stress, while increasing healthy fat, organic veggies, physical activity, and evidence-based supplements.
This is not just one doctor’s opinion about health. His method is backed by extensive clinical research, a thorough analysis of the nutritional connections to heart health and an in-depth review of cultures with little or no heart problems to unearth their nutritional/eating habits.

Like I said before, the book is fantastic! While I do not agree with the evolution part of paleo thinking, I do agree with the nutrition of it. The book is well-written, very thorough with research throughout and it is nicely broken down into easily understandable chunks within each chapter. It really energized me to continue to keep my diet clean, and although I do not eat completely paleo all the time, I do try to eat that way 90% of the time. It feels great!

Have you tried the paleo way of eating? What were your results?
