LARK for Better Sleep (Even with Autism) GIVEAWAY

Sleep.....of all the issues I never thought I would have, sleep is one of them. Growing up, and even in college, I had no problem going to bed early, closing my eyes, and sleeping until morning. Mornings for me typically started between 5am-6am, without an alarm. I always loved to start my day!

Things changed when I was 24. I had my first of 3 sons. You know that raising a baby generally is cause for a change in sleep patterns. Eventually you would think that you would go back to "normal" and sleep again - NOT in my case. You see, my oldest son has autism. While that means we have many challenges, the absolute most overwhelming problem has always been sleep. Sleeping problems have been identified as one of the most challenging problems people with autism face. My son just cannot get enough sleep. I don't know if it is the anxiety, the stomach issues, or something unidentified. I just know he is awake at night, which means that my family is awake too.

But how much sleep is he really getting? To say he is getting "no" sleep isn't completely true...it can't be. Recently I was given one of the best tools to give me an idea of "how much". This helps make it so much easier to talk to the school, doctors, and even my son about his sleep.

The LARK is what I call an EXTRAORDINARILY ORDINARY product. It was designed with ordinary life in mind. However, because of the company's thorough attention to both detail and their users, the product fits into the life of those with autism. The LARK works with your iPod or iPhone (just download the free app) and with the use of an actigraphy microsensor, will tell you how you slept. It will wake you gently, without waking anyone else. This means that this completely soft bracelet you wear buzzes your wrist instead of blasting an annoying beep through the air. It works too! I wore the wristlet, and it gently nudged me awake at the set time. I had no fears of it working because LARK built in a back up plan. I had my son use the LARK, and on the very first morning, this 15 year old with autism, got out of bed without yelling, for the first time, in so long. This is EXTRAORDINARY!

After you plug the LARK back into its docking station, it generates a report on how you slept. This is amazing to me. Again, this is an ORDINARY product. Many with autism are visual learners, and that they need to SEE to understand. I do have to tell you that the LARK coaching and information is based on adult sleep. However, with a little knowledge about teen and child sleep, you can use all of the advice and information LARK supplies. After LARK gives you a visual report through words, charts, and graphs, it actually gives you advice from a sleep coach on what to do to get better sleep. This works out well for me because my son compartmentalizes everything.....that means that "mom" is a mom, and he can understand advice when it comes from an expert. I also find it very helpful to actually be able to give written data to my son's school team.

Need to hear more about one of the best tools I've come across in a long time? How about this....their web support and customer service is amazing. Let's face it, the last thing we need is to have our technical issues unanswered....or to be unsure if the tools we invest in actually do their job. I recommend that you go to the LARK website and look around. I am pretty sure you will like the information and friendly atmosphere.
