MomEmineral Review and Giveaway

What if there was a place you could shop at, knowing everything is natural, safe, and healthful instead of hurtful? A place where you wouldn't have to weed out the bad brands and check through ingredient labels meticulously looking for chemicals and toxins?  A place that you could shop for everyone in your family, from children and pets to adults and seniors? Would you be interested to hear about this amazing place?

Mom*E*Mineral makes it easy for you, as a mom who wants the best for her family, to shop for your whole family's needs online. Their allegiance to health and wellness is what drives the standards of quality for the products they offer. Mom*E*Mineral's products are hand selected. It is their commitment to their customers to continue to provide top notch, cutting edge, often backed-by-research products and personalized service for years to come.

I think this is one company that we should all pay attention to. They put a lot of care and thought into their products and their customer care, and it shows.

I love how easy it is to browse around their site and find what you need. You can search by brand, ingredient of by specifiic need.  My favorite thing about this site is that you can trust them! As many of you well know, I am a very choosy consumer. I choose only products that give my family the best, and I know which brands to trust. Mom*E*Mineral carries many of the brands I trust and many more that I would love to try. Plus, I love their staff and have had only great experiences with them all.

Sage Deodorant 3.4 oz by Weleda Body CareSea Buckthorn Body Lotion 3.4 oz by Weleda Body Care
Some of my favorites from Mom*E*Mineral are Weleda lotions and Weleda Sage Deodorant. I never liked spray deodorants until I tried this one. It is herbally fragranced with natural essential oils of Sage, Lavendar, Rosemary and Thyme. Plus, it has Liquorice Root extract which helps to neutralize and prevent unpleasant body odors. This deodorant is free from harmful anti-perspirants, allowing your skin to function the way it is supposed to. I love it!

Bitter Orange Essential Oil 0.5 oz by Wise Woman Herbals
Also, I have been running low on essential oils. I use them for everything from stomach aches to body aches to cleaning the air. Mom*E*Mineral has a great selection of essential oils. My newest favorite is Bitter Orange, which has a great refreshing citrus smell and a variety of benefits including: anti-depressant, digestion, helps detox, anti-inflammatory and more.

Besides these products, Mom*E*Minerals carries a huge variety of things you use in your house daily, such as: toothpaste, facewash, food and snacks, baby products, and so much more!

I HIGHLY recommend you check out the website and start shopping with a smile! You will be well cared for and you will be able to care for the ones you love well when you shop at Mom*E*Mineral.

To get you started, (1) lucky winner is going to win a $75 Gift Certificate to Mom*E*Mineral to spend however they want!

Yummy Healthy Meatloaf Recipe

Many of you are probably confused why I am posting a meatloaf recipe when I hardly eat meat. Well, it is because the other day it sounded good, I had never made meatloaf before, and it turned out delicious!!! So, I wanted to share it with all of you...

Mexican Meatloaf

1 1/2 cups salsa
1 large organic egg
1/2 lb organic ground beef
1 cup old fashioned rolled oats
1 can black beans, drained and rinsed
couple dashes of black pepper

Preheat over to 350 degrees. Coat a loaf pan with cooking spray.

In a large bowl combine 1 cup of salsa and the egg. Add the beef and beans and mix together with your hands. (I personally really enjoyed getting into my food in this way, after I finally talked myself into reaching in the bowl) Then, add the oats and mix in with your hands.

Place the whole mixture into your loaf pan, (don't worry if it is a bit messy) and try to allow some space on the sides of the pan. Sprinkle with pepper and top with remaining salsa.

Bake it for 50 minutes and enjoy! Yum, yum, yummy! Feel free to play around with the recipe how you choose. After all, that is how I made it up.

Oh, and it goes great with homemade sweet potato fries.

Enjoy this healthy, super easy, delicious meal!

Mohawk Home Rug Review and Giveaway

I am a huge advocate of clean living. One place people don't always realize that toxins are hiding is in their own homes. And carpeting is a huge culprit!! Whether your carpets are new or old, they probably have more bad things in them than you want to imagine. The list is staggering. For new carpets there are ‘volatile organic compounds’ VOC’s. These include toluene, benzene, formaldehyde, ethyl benzene, styrene, acetone and a host of other chemicals, some of which have already made the EPA’s list of Extremely Hazardous Substances. And that is not all that it is in your carpet. Other compounds in new carpeting that affect your health are adhesives, stain protectors, mothproofing and flame retardants.

Older carpets can be more of a hazard than new ones: Not only do they contain the chemicals banned from more recent production, they also have had years to accumulate pounds of dust mites, dirt, pesticides and other toxins brought in on shoes, feet and pet’s paws. Did you know that your carpet can hold 8 times it’s weight in toxin filled dirt and you can’t even see the trapped dirt that your carpet is hiding!

I could go on and on, but I will save that for later. Just know, the carpet that feels so soft under your feet is not as nice as it seems, which is why I opt for rugs. Mohawk Home has some fabulous rugs that you will love and that will love you!

I picked out the Compton Stripe Oyster Shell Accent Rug. In winter, my little feet get cold walking on my bare kitchen floor, so this rug is perfect for right next to the stove, where I spend a lot of time making meals.
Check out how nicely it fits into my kitchen.

I really like the qualilty of Mohawk's rugs, and I appreciate that they have so many different varieties. From area and accent rugs to indoor/outdoor rugs and doormats, they have you covered!

Check out all the great options that Mohawk Home offers and buy your favorites at one of their retailers.

Great news!! (1) Lucky, lucky reader will win a Mohawk Home rug up to size 5x8 under $400 of their choice!!

Wigglebottom Books Review and Giveaway

For parents, grandparents, teachers and everyone else who loves children, I have some great stuff to share with you today!

The We Do Listen Foundation is a non profit foundation that offers free Howard B. Wigglebottom animated books, songs, posters and non-violent games. They are helping children feel good about themselves and learn important lessons about listening, bullying, anger management, moderation, truth, divorce, peer pressure, belonging, generosity, sportsmanship and attention.

As a mother and former teacher, I see the great value in this foundation and all they offer! I had fun browsing around their site finding all kinds of great stuff for my children. I printed off some cute coloring sheets for my son, downloaded fun songs for both of my kids and we watched an animated book together. My son is now Howard B. Wigglebottom's biggest fan!

We also received two Howard B. Wigglebottom hardcover books, which is great, because my son doesn't normally spend time on the computer. He loves his books, Howard B. Wigglebottom Learns It's OK to Back Away and Howard B. Wigglebottom and the Monkey on His Back.

Howard B. Wigglebottom Learns It's OK to Back Away is a great book that teaches lessons about how to react when you don't get your way and how to deal with angry feelings. My 3 year old son is going through the "I want..." stage of thinking everything should go his way, so I love the great lessons this book teaches!

Howard B. Wigglebottom and the Monkey on His Back is a story about telling the truth. Again, this is a great story for all children, and adults for that matter. I love the illustrations in these books and how easily they are relatable to children.

If you want to purchase any of these hardcover books, you can buy them for 55-60% off the publisher price on the We Do Listen Foundation site.

I highly recommend these hardcover books and the We Do Listen Foundation's site, because most of it is free and it is full of valuable information!

Plus, we are giving away (1) autographed Howard B. Wigglebottom book of your choice to (1) lucky winner! Hooray!

Pure Bar Review

As I sit here at my computer halfway between breakfast and lunch, I can feel my stomach growling, but I don't want to indulge in snacking and break the bank with too many calories. That is when I remember, "Oh yeah, I have those Pure bars that are less than 200 calories, made of only pure ingredients and sooooo tasty!"

Too good to be true? No way! These are just plain awesome no matter how you look at them. When I received my bars, I immediately turned them over to check out the nutrition label and ingredients.  This is what I saw in the Organic Cherry Cashew Bar: Organic Dates, Organic Cashews, Organic Cherries, Organic Rice Protein Concentrate, Organic Walnuts, Organic Agave Nectar, Organic Almonds and that's all!! See anything in there that you can't pronounce or that you have never heard of? Nope. See any chemicals or artificial ingredients or fake colors? Nope. Just raw, organic goodness. And they are vegan and gluten-free too!

Besides being naturally delicious, they also have a good amount of protein so that you don't end up feeling hungry 20 minutes after eating one. Every bar I tried had 5 grams of protein or more to keep you full.

So, let's talk flavors. They have two lines of products: their organic line and natural line. Included in the organic line are Apple Cinnamon, Cherry Cashew, Wild Blueberry, Cranberry Orange, and my personal favorite - Chocolate Brownie. Their natural line includes: Chocolate Almond, Superfruit Nutty Crunch and Peanut Raisin Crunch. I can honestly say that there isn't a single one that I didn't like. They are all fabulous!

I know exactly where to go to purchase my Pure bars when I run out, and you can find stores near you that carry them too. You can also find them on Facebook and Twitter for giveaways and other fun stuff!

Once you taste these bars and know you are nourishing your body, you will never go back to overly processed, fake ingredient snack bars ever again!

Never Give Up Book Review

I have not gone through a life-threatening illness. I have not lost a loved one from a life-threatening illness. But, when I heard about Ruthe Rosen's book, Never Give Up, I knew that I had to read it.

You see, when Ruthe Rosen’s fourteen-year-old daughter, Karla, was diagnosed with an inoperable brain tumor and given only a year to live, Ruthe and her entire family did more than cope with the unimaginable—they embraced it. Even though I haven't dealt with this situation or anything even close to it, I do have children I love dearly, and I felt a strong connection to this book.

The way Ruthe writes the book, incorporating pictures, diary entries, and lessons she learned along the way, makes you feel a close connection to her and her family.  As a mother, I laughed and cried through the book as I imagined my own children in Karla's place. It hit me deep in my heart every time I began to read.

This is one of those books you don't ever want to put down, even after you are done reading it. I almost felt as if I were part of the Rosen family, and I wanted to continue with them on their journey.

I am so grateful to Ruthe for sharing her and Karla's journey and the invaluable lessons she learned along the way. When I asked Ruthe, "If you had to choose one main thought/lesson that you want other mothers to take away from your book, what would it be?" She answered...

"There are so many things I am hopeful a mom reading Never Give Up will walk away with but if I have to choose one of the biggest lessons I learned and share with so many people I sit and talk with, it would be…

Embrace the journey. Take one day at a time. In order to embrace it, you must first accept it. You don’t have to understand it all nor be able to figure it all out, but no matter how dark your struggle, embrace every single moment of it or you will miss the opportunity to find joy and purpose. And that living with 100% hope is a choice we all have the strength to choose."

Besides affecting people through her book, Ruthe Rosen and her husband Michael have embarked on a mission to reach out to strangers who need help and return the kindness they experienced. They created The Let It Be Foundation, which helps families with children who have been diagnosed with life threatening illnesses or medical conditions.

Proceeds from the sale of Never Give Up will benefit The Let It Be Foundation. You can buy your own copy on Amazon or on Ruthe's website. Thank you, Ruthe, for sharing your story with all of us! It affected me deeply, and I am truly grateful!

Justin Hines CD Review and Giveaway

I just love meeting people whose stories are so awesome that they give you the chills. Justin Hines and his music give me the chills everytime I listen to him!

Hines has thrived all his life against odds that would daunt someone with a less indomitable spirit. He has Larsen Syndrome, a joint dislocation condition that confines him to a wheelchair. “The reality is I don’t really look at my situation as that big a deal,” he says. “We all have our things that challenge us, just some people’s are a little more visible in the forefront. Mine is very apparent, whereas others wear it on the inside.” Isn't that the truth? So insightful!
Justin's American CD debut, “Days to Recall,” (available now) is so upbeat and inspirational. Like I said earlier, his heartfelt lyrics and music give me the chills.  His music has a singer/songwriter feel to it, and it is very calming and upbeat. Justin says this about his music, “I don’t want to pretend that dark times don’t exist, but I have a hard time leaving things negative. I think every challenging situation leads to something better. When I’m writing I don’t do it consciously in the songs, it’s just how they evolve.”

Listen to a sneakpeak of Justin's song, "Tell Me I'm Wrong" - one of my favorites!

I also love reading Justin's blog for updates and pictures on all the new things he has going on in his life. Everyone has special gifts and talents, and I think Justin is using his musical talents to the fullest! I am thankful to him for sharing his message and music with all of us. Don't miss this opportunity to be inspired! Buy Justin's CD "Days to Recall" or his other music online today.

For (1) lucky reader, we are giving away (1) Justin Hines "Days to Recall" CD! How fabulous is that?

Modify Watches Review and Giveaway

Thank you to my dear friend and teenager Mom for her awesome guest blogging review!

Last Thursday morning, our family of 5 was rushing around. You know-just the usual routine of chaos that hits between 7:15 am and 7:30 am when 3 boys ages 11, 13, and 15 all have to be somewhere. When out of blue, my sweet, under-the-radar, sometimes barely noticed middle child asks, “Hey, what’s this?” He had picked up a blue-faced, black-strapped Modify Watch. Excited that my non-morning person liked anything at all, I eagerly said, “You want to wear it?” He started his day with a smile, and was actually out the door on time.

My first impression of the Modify Watch set that I received for review, was, “Wow, that’s a fun watch!” Really, it’s more than one watch, it is actually able to be 2 watches, or more. Just pop out the face and pop it into a new strap. As my boy went off to do the real testing (you know, how did the rest of Jr. High like it?), I spent a little time on the website. I quickly learned that not only was it a “fun” watch; the site was quite funny too. I was laughing at the fun names for some of the watches, such as “Mr. Spock”. Ordering the watch is super easy too……Pick your face color-Blue, Silver, and Argyle are some of my favorites, and then add a strap or two. You can choose great colors like pink, yellow, or green, along with some great standards, like brown, black, and grey.

I asked my oh-so-laid back teen what he thought, and he said, “It’s pretty Cool, and kids said they liked it and thought it was Cool.” Ooooooh….that means the watch does more than show time; it starts conversations! I found out that he ran his 3.5 miles for practice with it on, and had no irritation. Then, it went through a couple hours of backyard tackle football with no issues. So, Modify Watches look fun, act fun (you can change them up), start conversations with teens, are rugged and comfortable, and get you where you need to be on time? All I can say about all of that is: Cool!

Maybe on Monday, I will send him out with the green strap….who knows what Cool things will happen?

Thanks to Modify watches, (1) of my readers will win a Modify watch!

How and Why to Cook Tasty Pumpkin Seeds

I love pumpkins, because you can use almost all of the pumpkin without any waste, including the seeds! In fact, pumpkin seeds are super healthy for you and can be really tasty!

Did you know there are 5 grams of protein and fiber per 1-ounce of pumpkin seeds? Plus, they are a  good source of zinc and magnesium!

But, how do you make those slimey suckers taste good?

I start by picking them out of the slimey sludgy inside of the pumpkin. (This is great fun to do with children, because the texture is so fun to touch) After I have them separated from the slime, I rinse them off in a colander until they look clean and shiny, as you can see below.

Then, I grab my baking sheet, spray it with nonstick cooking spray, and then comes the fun part! You can sprinkle these boring-looking seeds with whatever seasonings you want to fit your mood.

In the mood for sweet? Sprinkle them with a cinnamon, sugar, salt mixture.
In the mood for spicy? Try sprinkling chili powder, cinnamon and a bit of salt.
How about just salty? I like to sprinkle sea salt and a bit of garlic salt on.
The combinations are really endless...so experiment with what you like best!

Then, roast them on the baking sheet for 10 minutes at 325 degrees and voila! You have some tasty snacks that will energize and fill you up! Don't they look delicious?
