Trouble Sleeping??

I have had lots of trouble sleeping since my little peanut was born almost three weeks ago. But, that is only because I have to feed her every 2 hours, burp her, listen to her snort and make all these other baby noises throughout the night, and I have the paranoid mother question of "Is she still alive??" going through my head all night. My sleep deprivation has an end in sight, and I know why I am kept awake, but that is not the case for everyone.

I hear from my nutrition and fitness clients all the time that they have trouble sleeping, and they don't have newborn babies. There are so many reasons people are not sleeping well these days, and we have to fix it! Sleep is sooooo important for good health!! I cannot stress that enough!

So, what do you do to get better good quality sleep? (Remember, you want to sleep at least 6 hours straight without waking, so you get that great deep REM sleep)

Here are a few tips for you:

  • Write down any thoughts or to-do's that are bugging you on a sheet of paper that you keep by your bed.

  • Exercise!! Researchers at Northwestern University discovered after four months of exercising 30-minutes at least 4 times a week, exercising insomniacs were getting up to 90 minutes more sleep a night than the sedentary insomniacs. And....the exercising group also felt happier and healthier!! Why? Well, working out can reset your circadian rhythms, which helps you sleep better. Not to mention, exercise fights stress, which is why a lot of people aren't sleeping well.

  • Try counting backwards from 100 down. Sometimes, I try this one to quiet my mind. It has worked for me!

  • Don't drink alcohol before bed. You may think it will make you sleep well, but it actually won't help you get the deep sleep you need.

  • I also recommend Shaklee's Gentle Sleep Complex to help with sleep. It is a natural supplement that includes: Passion flower, German Chamomile, and Valerian. Valerian has been used for over a thousand years because it helps maintain a calm state, promotes relaxation, and is a natural means of promoting restful sleep.

Any other tips for our insomniac friends? Comment and tell us what you have tried that works great!

Navoh Handbag Review and Giveaway

I don't know about you, but I love the feeling of donating or giving away a used and worn down bag or clutch in favor of a hot new bag! After having a baby, I have felt anything but hot and in with the latest fashions (except if you count unmatching pajamas and slippers as super hot!). But, then Navoh came to the rescue and revived me a little bit with an awesome shoulder bag that I love to strut around with! (I know, I know...but it is the little things!)

Navoh is an awesome company with hot new handbags that fit anyone's style! Designed in New York for the independent spirit, this versatile collection of bags includes everything from clutches, cross body, and hobo bags to satchels, shoulder bags and totes. Navoh is dedicated to the consumer’s happiness. Inside each bag lies a different surprise: smile-inducing, wildly printed lining. Convenience is essential, as each piece is adjustable in one way or another. The versatility that comes with Navoh is refreshing; hidden pockets, sneaky closures, and adjustable/removable shoulder straps make these purses with a purpose. These bags are made with love, and it shows.

Each bag has its own personality, and I just love that! I received the Bella Khaki shoulder bag, and I love it! This bag is the perfect size for me at 15 inches tall, 16 inches wide and 5 inches thick. I can even use it to carry all my baby's needs around too. And that makes it the hottest diaper bag of all! (although I hate to use the word diaper within 100 miles of this bag)

One of my favorite parts about this bag is the surprise you get when you open it up! When you unbutton the latch, you will find a silky colorful and bright flowery pattern lining the whole bag! It is so fun and gives it a great luxurious feel too. There are two main compartments big enough to hold whatever you need, and then there are also 4 secret pockets hidden in there too for items you don't want to lose or you don't want anyone to find!

Doesn't this bag sound so fun and funky? I just love all that makes it unique! If you aren't a fan of the khaki color, you can also get it in black and camel too!

Whether you are a little handbag or big bag kind of person, Navoh has all the hottest bags around, and I know you will find one you love. Browse their Fall/Winter Collection or their New Arrivals for tons of options.

Order your favorite today online or check to see if there is a retailer carrying them near you.

"Cut In Half" Book Review

Are you feeling a little let down now that all the fun festivities of Christmas are over? I know sometimes I feel that way, living in the midwest...hearing the snow blowing outside, not seeing the sun shine for days, breathing in frigid air every time I step outside. Winter is not my favorite season, but at least we have Christmas to bring some joy into the dreariness. Sadly, when Christmas is over, lots of us lose that feeling of love, joy, merriment, and feeling blessed.

I have a wonderful book to share with you today that I can guarantee you will snap you out of feeling sorry for yourself, forgetting how blessed you are, and give you renewed hope and joy! The book, "Cut In Half," is the unforgettable true story of Ana le Roux, an average thirty something mother. But three weeks after giving birth to her second child tragedy struck--the unimaginable--a violent head on collision. The force of impact thrust her forward with such intensity that it literally cut her in half! Ana le Roux would tell you she was set to die that day but instead, God blessed her with miracle after miracle to heal her body. In her awe inspiring testament of God’s love, Ana proves that miracles are not just an archaic phenomenon found in scripture; they really do happen every day in a variety of ways.

This book immediately caught my attention because, in the story, Ana is in a very similar situation to me - we are both mothers of two, about the same age, both of our second children were born in December, and we both felt confident in our faith. I could relate to her as she started out her story.

As she retold her story about her terrible car accident and injuries, I found myself constantly counting my blessings, thanking God for each one, and realizing that my own faith is quite weak, because I don't know if I could have faced this kind of tragedy as well as she did. It is shocking what this amazing woman went through, and it will inspire you!

I love how she divided each chapter into three sections:

1. The retelling of her story

2. "Food for Thought" designed to help you reflect on the preceding story

3. "Soul Searching" to help make readers part of the experience by giving us a chance to reflect on our own lives and see all the wonderful things God has done for us.

I really appreciated each section of each chapter. It made the story even more meaningful for me, and I know it will do the same for you. I hope you all take time to read this book. It only took me three days to finish this gripping story, so take a little time and be awed and inspired by "Cut in Half." You can find and purchase it here.

My Favorite Stick-With-It Health and Fitness Tips

It is so easy to get pumped up about living healthier...for like a week. Then, you start dropping those big goals as fast as lightning and go back to your routine, easy way of life. How about sticking with it this time and actually feeling better, getting healthier, and looking your best? Here are my favorite tips to help you on your health journey. (a journey you will want to continue for your whole life long)

•Appreciate what you have achieved! It's easy to feel like you will never get to your final goals or never be thin enough. But, you need to remind yourself that it was hard work to get where you are at, and maintaining your current weight is no easy task!!

•When you are working out, always build yourself up with self-talk. Reassure yourself how strong you are and how much better you will feel after your workout. Don't leave a workout thinking you could have given more.

•Post a picture of yourself on your fridge from when you were at your heaviest. Use that and a list of reasons you want to get healthy to motivate you!

•Keep a journal - not just for food, but also for exercise. It helps you feel accountable for the decisions you are making each day!

•Know your weaknesses and steer clear of them. If you can't eat just one handful of your fav treat, don't have it in your house, or at least have it out of sight. Instead, always have healthy snacks out in the open.

•When grocery shopping, stay away from processed, packaged food. Spend the most time and money in the fresh food sections.

•Drink lots of water! It helps fill you up, flush out toxins and keep you hydrated. To mix it up, add a few pieces of frozen fruit to use instead of ice cubes. Yum!

•Invest in yourself! If you don't take care of yourself now, who will? Your health should be a major priority!

You can do it! I am always here for any questions or help you need. Leave a comment or email me!

ShaToBu Review and Giveaway

Ladies....you are going to be excited about this awesome new way to shape up your body while you go about your daily routine!!!

Get this, ShaToBu is the first-ever body shaper that also tones your muscles and burns extra calories while you perform your everyday activities. Sounds awesome, right? That is, if it actually works...I am quite the skeptic, but get this, the studies behind ShaToBu show:

  • Shaping hips, thighs, tummy and derriere by a reduction of 3-6%

  • Tones the muscles of the hips and thighs by providing over 30% more resistance than traditional shapers during daily activities such as walking and climbing stairs

  • Burns an average of 12% more calories when worn during daily living

So, what makes ShaToBu work so well? Here's the scoop - It is all based on the principle of resistance training, which I love!! They use seamless resistance bands to make the muscles work a little harder during natural movement! I think that is just genius! You can learn more here.

I also love that ShaToBu was created by Dr. Denise Perron, a board-certified chiropractor. She was noticing that many of her patients did not consistently perform the exercises she prescribed. So, she found a way for her patients to exercise without them changing their daily routines.

I received the High Waist to Knee Shaper to try out for myself. I like this shaper in particular for the extra smoothing it offers around the tummy area, since I just had a baby. I have worn this shaper under form fitting shirts and pants and under dresses, and it really shapes nicely. There was one pair of pre-pregnancy pants that I couldn't quite zip up to the top yet, so I tried it again with my ShaToBu on, and I got them zipped up and looking good! Yay!

I appreciated that my shaper came with really good instructions on how to wear it properly. It also included a little card with different short exercises you can do while sitting at a chair to really maximize the benefits.

Overall, I really like ShaToBu and the concept behind it. I think that along with good exercise habits and healthy eating, this is a wonderful addition to help shape you up! ShaToBu is meant to be worn all day every day, so you have to be diligent, just like with any healthy lifestyle.

You can choose from three different basic types of ShaToBu: Waist to Knee Shaper, High Waist to Knee Shaper, and three different types of Tights. They come in several sizes and colors, so pick your fav!

This is the best part - we are giving away a ShaToBu of your choosing to one of my fabulous readers!! Woohoo!! Merry Christmas to you!

Eco Vessel Review

You can't have a "Life After Baby" blog event without talking about water bottles. I drink an insane amount of water each day - every time I start breastfeeding my daughter, I get this crazy thirst. I am also sipping it throughout the day. Once I start exercising again, I will only be drinking more.

Now, if you want the most healthy and natural water bottle option, you will want a stainless steel reusable bottle. Here is a shocking statistic for why - Using plastic water bottles is expensive, wasteful and unnecessary. Sadly, more than 80% of these bottles are not even recycled but simply thrown away, creating more than a million tons of waste each year

Eco Vessel has a complete line of stainless steel water bottles, including thermal insulated bottles, filter bottles, and sippy cups for babies & kids. They have a simple slogan, “live clean & be green”.

I love that their products are 100% recyclable. Their BPA free bottles are made of high quality, non-leaching materials and are designed for your safety, ease of use and convenience.

I received their awesome water filtration bottle - talk about killing two birds with one stone! This water bottle is an entire water filtration system within a safe reusable water bottle! LOVE IT!!! Its patented Ionic-Adsorption Micro-Filtration system removes up to 99.99% of pollutants, providing up to 100 gallons of delicious drinking water. It keeps the water cool for extended periods and fits into most cup holders. Each 27 oz. bottle (800 ml) is made from #304 food grade stainless steel, is non-leaching and BPA free.

I love the drinking spout on this water bottle. You don't have to worry about water splatting you in your face if you are drinking while moving, which was always a problem for me. Water drips down your shirt are just embarrassing! I also love that it actually fits into my car's cup holder. You can definitely tell this bottle is great quality, and I absolutely love it! It has all the things that you need and want in a reusable water bottle.

Check out the filtered water bottles and all of Eco Vessel's other bottles here. These will get you all amped up for getting healthy in this new year. They would also make a great gift for anyone who loves to hike, exercise, or is concerned about living as naturally and healthfully as they can!

Slimpressions Review and Giveaway

I am a big fan of being comfortable with your body, no matter what body type you have! If you are healthy, active and confident with yourself, that is to be commended!!

Some days, we need a little confidence boost or we just want that extra "Va Va Voom," and that is where Slimpressions comes in.

Slimpressions is a women-owned company that offers everyday shapewear. They use a patented seamless technology to leverage various weaves within one comfortable, streamlined torso.

The ribbed midriff provides extra compression and structure to smooth and shape jelly belly, muffin top, back fat and bra bulge. This magic middle, as they like to call it, conforms to every body type whether you sport an hourglass, cylinder, pear or apple body shape.

The jersey top makes their body slimmers appear to be layering pieces. They even designed a mesh weave in the arm pits of our patent-pending, arm-flab tackling, sleeved garments for added air flow where you need it the most. Further, these upper body Top Sleekret slimmers were designed to sit on the hips and work with a woman’s body to minimize those roll-ups and stay in place.

As a new mom of only one week, I know I will get my body back to where I am comfortable, but in the meantime, Slimpressions is a new favorite of mine! I received The Haves from their Top Sleekret collection.

I chose The Haves because it makes a fantastic layering piece without giving the appearance of being shapewear. I really love the sleeves because you can wear them just above or below the elbow, so they work well with 3/4 length shirts too! I love how this piece makes my chest and arms look. It really gave me the look I was going for in those areas.

This shapewear piece is very smooth, and I am so glad that there is no rolling or bunching! I just hate when shirts or slimmers roll up like a newspaper. Ughh! That bugs me to no end. Who wants to keep unrolling their shirt?

I also love how The Haves can be cleaned so easily - just throw it in the washing machine and go! As a mom of two now, I just don't have time to be handwashing my own clothes.

Slimpressions are not only mindful of a woman’s body when creating their products, they are mindful of her lifestyle too. That means a lot to me!

If you love The Haves like I do, you can choose from 4 different colors and 5 different sizes. Otherwise, go check out their other products in the Top Sleekret collection. You can order Slimpressions online or find a store near you that carries them.

One of my lucky readers is going to receive the product of her choice from Slimpressions Top Sleekret collection! How awesome is that???

Sounds great, right? It really is! As a fitness instructor and personal trainer, my clients tell me all the time that they want to work out at home too, but they just don't have the time or don't know what to do. Hit the Deck solves both problems, giving you the power to decide how many cards to do in whatever time you have and giving you the moves you want to get in shape!

I like how each card gives a detailed description of the exercise and shows you pictures of how the move progresses so there is no mistake in how to do it properly. I love the three levels of cards - No sweat, I'm glistening, and Sweating buckets.

One of my favorite parts about these fitness cards is that they are so easy to take anywhere! If I am on vacation or visiting family, I can take these along, and not have to worry about bringing fitness dvds or equipment along. Hooray!

The only downside that I can think of is that for me, personally, I already know all of these moves, and I would have loved a little more challenge. But, when you are doing back to back cards, you are definitely going to get a great workout!

You can buy Hit the Deck fitness cards right on their website for only $19.99. That is a steal of a deal for a workout that just keeps on giving!

My First Homebirth!

Since several of you have asked, and since I am very excited about it...I wanted to tell you a little bit more about my first completely natural homebirth of my daughter, Kailana. I hope it inspires you in some way!

My daughter, Kailana Alese, was born on Saturday, Dec. 11, 2010. She was due on Dec. 3rd, and I had been in early labor since late in the night of Dec. 5th. I woke up before midnight on the 5th with a bit stronger contractions than I had been having, but I shook it off as nothing much and went back to sleep. At around 2 am, I called my midwife and told her that I had now been having contractions for about an hour every 3-4 minutes. She said that she was finishing up at another birth 2 hours away, but that she and her apprentice would be at our house in 2 hours. I decided to clean the house some more, walk around, and rest a little. It was so peaceful to be up walking around the house with my husband in the quiet of the night. At around 3:30 am, my contractions started slowing down all of a sudden and then went back to around every 10 minutes not much more painful than Braxton Hicks contractions. Oooooooh! I was mad! What was going on???

So, my midwife and her apprentice arrived a bit after 4 am, and we talked about everything that had happened. She suggested that I go to bed, and perhaps the contractions would pick up again. Well, we woke up at 8 am, and the contractions were not picking up. She asked me if I wanted her to check if I was dilated, and I did. I was a tight 2 cm, and my cervix was quite thick yet. Not good. I felt bad that I had called them and dragged them here through a snow storm in the middle of the night for nothing. I felt bad that I still wasn't going to have my baby yet. But, the midwives were so reassuring that I had done the right thing, that they wanted me to call again right away if I wanted, and that they understood how emotional I must feel about seeing them leave and still not having a baby in my arms. They just had so much compassion and love for our family and situation. It really gave me strength and encouragement!

For the next 5 days, I continued having quite regular contractions, but they were not getting any stronger...so we waited....and I grew impatient...people kept asking if we had the baby yet, and I was starting to lose my cool.

Then, Friday night, as I was sitting on my birthing ball, trying to open up my pelvis and let gravity work, I felt a little wetness down there (if you know what I mean). Sure enough, when I went to the bathroom, it was a little damp. I thought maybe my water was breaking, but I didn't want to get hopes up. So, we went to bed. I woke up at about 2:30 am, and my contractions were a lot stronger than what they had been. I started timing them, and they were about 3-4 minutes apart again. So, I decided to call the midwife again. She said she would be there asap, and I got pretty excited! Here we go again...

A few minutes after talking to my midwife, the contractions really picked up, and I was down on my hands and knees swaying and breathing. This is it!!

The midwives arrived, and I spent the next 7 hours or so sitting on my birthing ball swaying my hips side to side, breathing through each contraction. This was definitely not like my last child's birth! This time, I was in the comfort of my own home, in my pajamas, reading a book between contractions, watching the sunrise, listening to my CD of birds and nature sounds, chatting with my son when he woke up, and just feeling strong, peaceful, and comfortable in my surroundings. My midwives went to sleep to give me as much space as I wanted to just do my own thing. I moved in and out of different rooms, had my morning protein shake, didn't have to worry about new nurses always coming and going, monitors and IV's stuck on and in me. I felt so at ease, even though it was still quite painful.

At around 10 am, my midwife checked me for the first time, and I was at 7 cm. Yay!!! Contractions were getting worse and worse, and she said that if I wanted them to break my water, just to let her know. I waited awhile longer, and then they broke my water. I sat on the birthing stool trying to see if that is how I wanted to start pushing, but it was uncomfortable to me. So, I moved back into the shower, and through all the pain, ended up on the floor of the shower ready to push.

I moved out back to the birthing stool - not comfortable, and onto my side on my bed.(which they had covered very very well with plastic sheets and pads) I pushed a little while like that, but then ended up pushing little Kailana out on my back on the bed. It turned out she had her arm up with her head, which made it a lot harder to push her out. My midwives were great with warm compresses and such to help me from not tearing, and I ended up with only a little tiny tear, most likely because of the extra hand and arm that she stuck out.

I had done it!!! I gave birth in the most natural setting I can think of - my own home with no drugs or other interventions with my wonderful encouraging midwives. And I mean it when I say they were encouraging. They helped me so much without being pushy or in the way. They offered so many words of strength and love. I feel blessed to have had them at my daughter's birth!

An hour or two after the birth, the midwives prepared an herbal bath for me to go in with my baby. It helped with healing me and my battle wounds, and it helps with the baby's cord to dry up faster and heal well. It was a special time for Kailana and I, and it was very relaxing.

My daughter is a healthy 8 lbs, 20 1/2 ounces, and she is doing great, other than bruises on her face that are healing. My midwives were also extremely supportive and helpful in starting breastfeeding. Last time, I wasn't producing enough milk for my son. Nonetheless, I kept at it, and just supplemented with some formula too. This time, they gave me lots of herbal teas to help boost my milk supply and really helped her to latch on the right way soon after she was born. I have had no problems so far, and I love being able to feed my baby all on my own, giving her all the nourishment that breastmilk provides!

If you have any questions about a home birth, using midwives, natural birthing, or anything I wrote about, please email me or comment below. I love to help in any way I can!!

The Godfrey Method Children's Book Review

Since I used to be an elementary and early childhood teacher, and since I plan on homeschooling my son, I was very interested to learn about the Godfrey Method. When I was teaching, I was a firm believer in teaching reading using phonics (sounding out words). That is the base of the Godfrey Method too.

The Godfrey Method is an innovative way that empowers parents with the fun tools and know-how to open up the world of possibilities for their children by early reading the right way. The unique picture letters and colorful stories help young children learn phonics faster and easier, giving them the two most important things they need: parent time and reading skills.

This method was created by Shannah B Godfrey, mother of 14 children, former rocket scientist, writer, speaker, and parenting coach. She developed her ground-breaking technique as the solution to her son’s inability to remember letter sounds. It worked so well, she used it to teach her other children to read before kindergarten. Her dad taught her to read when she was only 3 years old, which launched her into a successful academic life and career in aerospace.

I received one of her children's books - "A Pretty Girl Was Alpha Bette." It is a nice story for young children of either gender that uses the Godfrey Method and even includes phonics cards to use any time. I also liked how it rhymed, which children just love! The best part is how Shannah has connected the story and its characters to the phonics cards. Kids can see the letter sounds and pictures both throughout the story and in the cards.

She also gives great tips for using the Godfrey Method. For instance, teach lower case letters, because they are most common in written language. It is important to keep it simple and fun for success!

I love this method and story! I have already started using it with my son, and he just loves it! I will definitely continue to use and expect great success at teaching my children how to read at an early age. I definitely recommend this to all mothers who want to help their children increase their imagination, IQ, and capacity to learn for the rest of their lives!

I am a firm believer that children learn best from their parents, so go check out The Godfrey Method. Shannah has a great video to watch, an awesome blog, and many interesting articles to help you out.

Thank you to Shannah Godfrey for this product for review! Disclosure - This product was given for review for my honest opinion. No other compensation was given.*

My Baby Is Born!!!

I just wanted to let everyone know the good news! My daughter, Kailana Alese Nitz, was born yesterday 12/11/10 - 8 lbs, 20 1/2 inches!!! She is just beautiful, and I am so thankful for a healthy baby and loving family and friends!

I had a wonderful home birth with my midwife, and I can now say that I have had a completely natural birth!!! Not easy, to say the least, but I want to encourage everyone to at least think about natural childbirth. Being in my own home was just fabulous, and I don't think I will ever go back to hospital births, unless it was an emergency.

Anyways, enough of that - here's the part you care about! Pictures!!!

Now, we can get moving into our next blog event: Life After Baby Blog Event. I will be introducing a great new fitness/dance workout tomorrow to kick it off!

Ocheltree Organic Flannel Baby Blanket Review and Giveaway

I love finding beautiful shops where products are made with tons of heart, love and great quality. That is what I have found in Ocheltree Design. The fabulous products are made by Richard Killeaney, who has a thing for high quality fabrics with love and life in them. He uses recycled men's clothing to make all kind of unique products, including a baby line. The fabrics are recycled, vintage, or organic, so everything is one-of-a-kind.

In his baby line there are three key items: baby quilts, baby blankets, and play pillows. In this line, Richard uses the recycled menswear shirts for the quilt and pillow fronts and blanket binding. Then, he uses organic, USA grown and milled flannels as the off-white fabric.

I just love how eco-friendly this company is, using recycled cloth and organic flannel. Not to mention how important it is to Richard to use USA made fabrics whenever possible. Besides the baby line, Ocheltree also offers unique tote bags, purses, pillows and fantastic quilts!

I received the organic cotton flannel baby blanket in pink. The fabric was grown and milled in Texas and sewn in Bridgeport, CT. It is a nice size, perfect to cover a baby in a stroller or in a cradle. I also love that you can just machine wash it, making it super easy to use with a little one. I am waiting, waiting, waiting for my overdue baby to come out and use it. In the meantime, my son has loved snuggling with it, so soft against his skin.

At $20.00 for this beautiful original blanket, you can't pass it up. And you can add one of the organic baby pillows and/or an organic crib quilt. You can see more of Ocheltree on their website.

Lucky, lucky ducks!! We are giving away one of these beautiful organic flannel baby blankets in either yellow or red to one of my fabulous readers! Doesn't that sound awesome?

Bad Belly Fat? Omega-3s Can Help!

I know, this time of year it is not good to talk about fat. But I think this is the best time to talk about it. With all the treats and sweets around, you can make good decisions and prevent weight gain. Plus, I have some really great recent research about how Omega-3 fatty acids can help with abdominal fat - the most dangerous kind! Just bear with me a little through the actual research. I think you will find it quite interesting...

By now most of you are aware of the health risks of abdominal obesity, or belly fat. We know that is dangerous because it can lead to inflammation - but that's just the beginning. What happens next is even worse! We start storing fat in our muscles, our liver and our pancreas. And you really don't want to store fat there. When we store fat in those tissues it leads directly to insulin resistance, metabolic syndrome, type 2 diabetes and heart disease.

When we think of abdominal obesity the solution is pretty simple - weight loss and exercise. But, what do you do when you have fat organs? A recent review (Perez-Martinez et al., Biochimica et Biophysica Acta, 1801: 362-366, 2010) suggests that diets rich in omega-3 fatty acids may help. Fat accumulation in the liver precedes and predicts type 2 diabetes independently of obesity and even of fat distribution - but omega-3 fatty acids appear to help. Animal studies show that omega-3 fatty acids prevent fat accumulation in the liver, and a human clinical study showed that 2g/day of omega-3 fatty acids gave a complete regression of fatty liver symptoms in 33% of patients. And, recent studies suggest that fat accumulation in heart muscle may play a role in heart failure and susceptibility to the kind of arrhythmia that can lead to sudden death following a heart attack. Again, animal studies show that omega-3 fatty acids can prevent fat accumulation in heart muscle, and human clinical studies have shown that 1-2 g/day of omega-3 fatty acids significantly reduces the risk of sudden cardiac death.

I could go on, but you get the point. Diets rich in omega-3 fatty acids help prevent fat build-up in our organs and that decreases the risk of several major diseases. I'm not suggesting that you eat whatever you want and rely on omega-3 fatty acids to overcome all of the health consequences of obesity. But this does give us one more reason to make sure that our diets contain plenty of omega-3 fatty acids. I like to eat Alaskan salmon or halibut once a week and take a daily supplement of pure fish oil, OmegaGuard.

To Your Health!

Righteously Raw Chocolate Review

In the last few weeks of my pregnancy, I have had major cravings for chocolate!!! But, I am not one to just stuff whatever I crave into my face if it is not going to fuel my body. I try to eat what I crave and love in small amounts and with healthier options.

That is why I have loved indulging in Earth Source Organic Righteously Raw Chocolate. The Righteously Raw Chocolate bars are made of raw, organic, healthful ingredients and without refined sugars or genetically modified organisms (GMOs). From the raw, unheated, unprocessed and unadulterated cacao (chocolate) to the varied and exotic fruits, berries, and other certified organic ingredients that fill them. Now, that is my kind of treat!!

Chocolate has been reported to be one fo the leading antioxidant-rich substances on the planet, which is great news for me and all of you other chocolate lovers! It provides an abundant source of minerals like iron and magnesium and is one of the so-called "superfoods." But, not all chocolate is created equal. A Hershey's bar isn't going to give you the health benefits of a Righteously Raw bar.

Just one of the things that sets them apart is the fact that these chocolates are raw. What does that mean? Well, the nutritional and enzymatic structures that make "superfoods" so super are damaged when they are roasted or cooked, making it difficult or even impossible for our bodies to fully absorb the benefits at their full potential.

Righteously Raw Chocolates come in several different flavors including: Maca, Maqui, Caramel, Goji, and Acai. These are all really decadent fillings inside of the chocolate bar.

My favorite is the Goji Berry Chocolate Bar. It is made from dark, 90% raw cacao. Tucked inside are the goji berries, golden Hunza raisins, and Turkish figs. It is definitely a treat for the taste buds!! What else do I love about this bar? It contains all 8 essential amino acids, provides up to 21 trace minerals, and gives you immune-stimulating polysaccharides. There are just a few ingredients in this bar, and they are all organic and high quality ingredients. I love indulging in just a couple bites of this bar after my son goes to bed. Oh yum!!

The best part is that I have no guilt after eating this chocolate. I know it is fueling my body and not causing my blood sugar to spike or sending crazy signals to my brain. I think you will love this chocolate as much as I do!

You can read about even more benefits of the Righteously Raw chocolate and find a store near you that carries them right on their website. You can also visit their online retailers if there are no stores near you.

If you are looking to indulge in some amazingly healthy chocolate, you have to try Righteously Raw!!

Winner!!

Congratulations to our lucky winner of the "Mama Wants Her Body Back" Fitness DVD. I loved this product and highly recommend it!

Our winner is.................................................# 42 - Tori! Congrats!!

Just a quick update on my pregnancy - I am now three days overdue. Last night my midwifes came over because I was having strong close contractions, but then they slowed...Major bummer!! If anyone has any words of encouragement or wisdom for me, I would appreciate it, since I am a big discouraged.

Have a great day!

EZ Sox Review and Giveaway

I absolutely love this awesome invention for helping toddlers learn how to put their own socks on. EZ Sox are the world’s first training socks for toddlers. The gift of empowerment and “I Can Do It” spirit of the EZ Sox means children ages 2 to 5 and special needs children will be self sufficient, more confident and able to dress themselves.

I love that EZ Sox were created by parents who tired of seeing their young son struggle dressing himself. With my two year old son, I am currently working on him learning how to dress himself, and I know how frustrating this can be. The creators, Eileen and Ronnie Gesser, designed socks with pull-up loops on both sides of each sock, and fun graphics on the tops of the socks. In no time, their son was no longer frustrated and proudly dressing himself. Today this fun and easy teaching tool for teaching kids self-sufficiency is the only one of its kind.

My son was so excited to receive his pair of EZ Sox. He got the cute Teddy Bear pair, and was excited enough about that! But, then when he learned how to use them, I could see how proud of himself he was!! All your child needs to do is pull on the loops located on the sides of each sock, and up, up, up they go! These are now his all-time favorite socks!

EZ Sox come in all kinds of colors and animal designs, such as purple kitty, red lady bug, frog, piggy, and more. I also like that they have non-slip bottoms, because my son loves to run through our slippery kitchen and dining room floors.

The only thing I was a little concerned about was that my son is going to have a tough time learning how to pull up regular socks.

You can purchase your own EZ Sox online, or they are also available in many boutique stores across North America.

One of my lucky readers is about to win their own pair of EZ Sox. How fun is that?

Lenox Frame Review

I have another wonderful company to introduce you to today that would be perfect for getting your Christmas shopping done or decorating your baby's nursery, like I did!

I had never heard of Lenox until I received this beautiful Childhood Memories 4X6 frame available at Lenox.com. A total of 22 silver hearts decorate this feminine photo frame. Beaded accents border the frame's opening, highlighting the photo within. And a ballerina - in a pink tutu, of course - is fastened to the frame by a fancy pink bow.

Isn't that frame just beautiful? It looks just that beautiful when you receive it, too! I put mine in my little daughter's room, all ready for when she decides to make her appearance, which should be any day now. I especially love the cute little hearts that decorate this frame and the pink little ballerina that tinkles softly against the frame when you move it. (The little ballerina is my son's favorite thing to play with on this frame, too.)
You can immediately tell what a high-quality frame this is. From the black velvet backing to the beautifully polished silver, it really makes a statement in our baby's nursery. Right now, it is on sale for only $17.40. You can order it here at Lenox.com.
Lenox also has other beautiful gift ideas. You can shop the Dining and Entertainment, Collectibles, Jewelry, Home Decor, Wedding, and Holidays sections.

Nature's Notebook Review

If you are looking for a unique gift for someone you love this Christmas, here it is. Nature's Notebook by Courtney Noelle makes one of a kind art from beautiful sand writing seaside photography.

Yes, you can have Courtney personalize the message you want in the sand, photograph it, and you will have a one of a kind art piece that will mean so much!! What an awesome idea, right?

Nature's Notebook was born of a spiritual connection to the ocean and its beaches. Drawn to the soft sandy edges of the sea, artist Courtney Noelle has always felt inclined to inscribe words or names, thoughts or dreams into the ever-changing landscape of the beach. Something about its tumultuous fate, an uncertainty that parallels our own lives, makes sea sand the perfect tablet for expression. And what better way to capture that expression, the memory and the magic of the beach forever, than in a photograph.

Courtney Noelle began sharing these captured moments with friends and loved ones through gifts and cards. Soon, people were talking about these special snapshots, encouraging Courtney Noelle to make these gifts available to anyone. Touched, and eager to share this passion with the world, Courtney Noelle began Nature's Notebook, an online collection of photographs and cards using the seas' tranquility to express love and emotion.

You can design your own picture or choose from one of the options that Courtney has already designed such as: friendship, wedding, family, anniversary, new baby, romantic, and many more.

I chose to personalize one of the more romantic options. I had her put my husband and my names in the sand, as well as our anniversary date. It turned out just beautiful! I put the picture in a really neat seashell frame, and it is just one of the most special photos I have!

My picture looks very similar to the Who Heart Who option that Courtney offers. The only difference is that I had our anniversary date written below our names and the heart. Take a look at it and let me know what you think!

You can also choose if you want Courtney to frame your picture, if you want in black/white or color, what size, and whether you want it horizontal or vertical. It is so much fun to plan it out and then see the finished product! Head on over to Nature's Notebook, browse around and personalize your own lovely beach pictures.
